How to Apply

Indexed Tuition is a flexible tuition pricing plan based on each family's specific financial situation. Harford Day School partners with School and Student Services (SSS), a division of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), in a confidential process to determine each family's customized tuition rate through submission of the Parent Financial Statement (PFS).

Priority Deadline for Families New to Harford Day: 2/1/23

***For families new to Harford Day School, the Admissions application and the PFS application are separate forms that should be completed concurrently.

Please contact the admissions office directly to discuss your Indexed Tuition application after the priority deadlines listed above. Applications will continue to be reviewed throughout the year as funds allow.

Please follow the steps outlined below to apply for Indexed Tuition.

  • Complete & Submit PFS Application & Supporting Documents to SSS (Priority Deadlines: 1/3/23 or 2/1/23)

    1. Register and Create an SSS account: https://www.solutionsbysss.com/
    2. Complete the Parent Financial Statement (PFS). The PFS will ask you about family size, total income, savings, investments, indebtedness, medical and dental expenses, any unusual expenses, and other assets such as home equity.
    3. Pay the $55 Application Fee* and submit it. *Please note, if you qualify for a fee waiver, the fee will be automatically waived by SSS.
    4. Upload the following required supporting documents as PDFs:
    • All signed 2021 tax documents, including pertinent schedules
    • A copy of a most recent (2022) pay stub
    • First-time applicants, upload signed IRS Form 4506 Note: Form will not be processed without cause. If processed, a $50 fee applies)
    Please note: If you do not have a digital copies, please scan them. (JPEG and PNG files are not supported).
  • Upload W2 or 1099 for Income Verification (Due: 2/1/23)

    2. Login to your account
    3. Upload W2 or 1099 for Income Verification
  • Responsive Tuition Notifcation (Date: 2/17/23)

    Families who have submitted all required documents for a completed application following the above schedule will be notified in writing of their Responsive Tuition rate for the 2023/24 academic year.
  • Deadline to Accept Responsive Tuition Rate (Date: 3/1/23)

    New Families: Submit online continuous enrollment agreement and $1,000 deposit (applied to tuition).
    Returning Families: You will be notified with annual deposit instructions and due dates (typically March 1). Please watch your Inbox for this information prior to March 1, 2023. 
  • Deadline to Submit 2022 Taxes to SSS (Date: 4/16/23)

    Indexed Tuition rates are subject to change based upon verification of 2022 tax documents.
    If extenuating circumstances have caused you to apply for a tax extension, you must notify the School in writing with an anticipated date for the completed tax documents to be submitted.
Key Factors Determining Your Indexed Tuition Level
Total Family Income as verified with IRS forms and schedules
Net worth, including real estate, bank accounts, non-retirement investments
Debt to Equity Ratio
Number of children in the family and in tuition-charging schools
Discretionary or luxury expenditures
Extenuating circumstances (health, change in employment, other)
Harford Day is the only PK3 to Grade 8 independent school in Harford County accredited by AIMS (Association of Independent Maryland/DC Schools) and a member of NAIS (National Association of Independent Schools).
