Head of School Susan Bond Kearney

Susan Bond Kearney, Head of School at Harford Day, brought over 25 years of leadership experience in Baltimore independent schools, holding multiple senior positions. Known for strategic thinking and gracefully navigating complex situations, Susan’s thoughtful, student-centered leadership style is grounded in collaboration and listening.

Before joining HDS in 2019, Susan was Assistant Head of School at St. Paul’s. While there, she played a central role in shaping the School’s academic program. She also led the Academic Council, collaborating with other academic leaders on department development and steering the school into a more diverse and inclusive community.

While at St. Paul’s, Susan served on the Board of Trustees’ Finance and Property Committees and was co-chair of the AIMS Accreditation Steering Committee. She has taught an information technology course in the Upper School and has been an affiliate faculty member at Loyola University of Maryland School of Education. For two years, Susan also acted as the President of the Board of Trustees at Irvine Nature Center.

Susan’s interaction with Harford Day graduates as students at St. Paul’s drew her to Harford Day School, noting the excellence of those alumni “reflects Harford Day’s academics, faculty, core values, and nurturing environment.” 

As Head of School, Susan guides the Harford Day community with warmth and intelligence. She demonstrates a clear commitment to supporting students and educators in nurturing academic excellence, character, and a love of learning.
