English
The English 6 curriculum provides students with an introduction to a wide range of topics and skills as they begin their middle school studies. Students work on writing skills, oral presentation, grammar, vocabulary development, and literature comprehension and analysis. The essential theme of the sixth-grade year is “My Place in the World.” The English department has selected texts that help students to build empathy as they examine their own identities as well as consider how identities are impacted by culture, nationality, race, socio-economic status, family, ability, and other factors. The art of the argument in literature and writing is explored and practiced throughout the course.

Science
Earth and Space science connects directly to the sixth grade theme, “My Place in the World.” Students explore the far reaches of the universe, the Earth’s atmosphere and land formations, oceans and volcanoes, plate tectonics, and more. This class challenges students to consider the known history of our physical world as well as the impact we have upon it by examining how numerous systems interact with one another.
