    8th Grade Bread Baking

On Monday, November 21st, the 8th grade students will make quick bread for their Thanksgiving dinners. It's a little different this year, as the students will take home the bread they bake instead of donating it to Manna House. Due to Covid restrictions, Manna House is unable to accept our bread; however, we believe our eighth graders will benefit from our traditional experience of baking bread and hope you will enjoy the results of their labor. Of course, we will have both Covid and regular baking safety precautions in place.

The students will work in teams of two, determined by their advisors. Each child needs to bring in the following baking supplies.
    • 2 - 10"- 12" mixing bowls
    • 1 - set of measuring spoons
    • 1- fork
    • 1 - set of dry measuring cups
    • 1 - liquid measuring cup
    • 1 - rubber spatula/scraper
    • 1 - wooden or metal spoon
**Be sure to put your name on each item**

    Happy Thanksgiving Baking!

Rising 6th grade MS shadow morning

Mr. McGonigal’s Homeroom will shadow Wednesday, 11/30, and Mrs. Peck’s Homeroom will shadow Thursday, 12/1.

Our Middle School program is developmentally designed with the early adolescent in mind and implemented by a corps of talented, dedicated teachers. The growth that occurs during the sixth through eighth grade years -- cognitively, social-emotionally, and physically -- is phenomenal. Experiencing that growth in a Middle School that balances challenge and nurture, where your child is known as an individual, and where they are able to develop the solid foundation necessary for high school is one of the most precious gifts you can give your child at a pivotal point in maturation. As our students explore increasingly complex mathematics and hone their fluency in modern languages, as they develop their analytical skills in science and their interpretive skills in English, they are doing so in a uniquely appropriate setting: a PK3-Grade 8 school. Here, they are able to emerge as confident young people, leaders at HDS and poised for success in their next educational experience.

Parents are invited to gather in the Middle School Commons on their child’s shadow morning from 8:15-8:45 a.m. to learn more about the middle school program. The fifth graders will join us at 8:45 a.m. to be paired with a 6th grade host and together they will attend classes from 9:00-11:45 a.m., after which fifth graders will rejoin their classmates.
