• Under what conditions may a child attend school virtually?

  We are committed to in person learning for all students. However, a child may attend school virtually if they are quarantining or isolating due to COVID exposure or confirmed illness due to COVID. Additionally, there may be extenuating medical related circumstances, such as treatment for chronic illness (i.e., cancer, blood dyscrasia), that require a student to remain home from school. All requests will be handled on a case by case basis.

  • Please note that in the event your child requires a COVID test, Harford Day School accepts both rapid and PCR COVID test results. 

• One of my children failed MyMedBot because they are experiencing COVID symptoms. Do all of my children need to stay home from school?

  The symptomatic child should get a COVID test or alternate diagnosis from his/her health care provider. 

  • Unvaccinated siblings who attend HDS should stay home until the sick child is evaluated by a health care provider and receives a negative test result or alternate diagnosis. 
  • Vaccinated siblings do not need to wait until their sick family member receives a negative test result or alternate diagnosis.  They may attend school and must wear a mask indoors. 
  • If the sick child tests positive for COVID, unvaccinated siblings will need to follow quarantine protocols and vaccinated siblings should get tested 3 - 5 days after their last day of exposure.

  If you choose not to test or seek an alternate diagnosis, your child and their siblings will need to remain home for a minimum of 10 days. Please reach out to the School Nurse to discuss additional requirements.

• My child has been exposed to COVID. What are the next steps if your child is unvaccinated and experiencing symptoms of COVID?

  Seek further evaluation and get your child tested. If your child tests positive, he/she may return when there has been at least 10 days since symptoms first began AND no fever for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medications, AND an improvement in other symptoms. If you choose to get  your child tested and the result is negative, he/she may not return until after quarantine has been completed.    

• My child has been exposed to COVID. What are the next steps if your child is vaccinated and asymptomatic?

  Your child should get tested 3-5 days following the date of their last exposure and wear a mask in public indoor settings for 14 days or until he/she receives a negative test result. If your child tests positive he/she should isolate.

• My child has been exposed to COVID. What are the next steps if your child is vaccinated and experiencing symptoms of COVID?

  It’s still possible to spread the virus to others. Your child may return when it has been at least 10 days since symptoms first appeared and no fever for at least 24 hours without fever reducing medication and improvement of other symptoms, AND if applicable, communicable disease guidance has been met.

• My vaccinated child has no known exposure to COVID but is experiencing COVID symptom(s). When can he/she return to school?

  Seek further evaluation and if indicated, get tested.

  • If your sick child tests negative for COVID or receives an alternate diagnosis from the health care provider, he/she may return when symptoms have improved, no fever for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication, and if applicable, communicable disease guidance has been met. 
  • If your child did not get tested please provide a written assessment from your child’s health care provider stating testing is not indicated and the risk for COVID is low. 
  • If your child tests positive, he/she may return when there has been at least 10 days since symptoms first began, AND no fever for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medications, AND an improvement in other symptoms. 

• My family has a trip planned. Are there any guidelines we need to follow?
