Harford Day School – an independent, co-ed, PreK 3 – 8th Grade school located in Bel Air, Maryland (Harford County) – is seeking a full time Director of Auxiliary Programs. Job Purpose

The Director of Auxiliary Programs directs, supports, and implements diverse functions and programs to drive income for the School. The primary focus is the design, management, and coordination of Extended Day, enrichment, facility rentals, private music lessons, Summer smARTS, and employee child-care days. This role ensures all programs are safe, engaging, and aligned with the School’s Mission.

Duties and Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Implementation

  • Operational Oversight: Create, develop, and run all Extended Day, Enrichment, Private Lessons, and Summer smARTS programs (Preschool through 8th grade).
  • Strategy & Growth: Assess and enhance current offerings through market research and collaboration with faculty to meet family needs.
  • Policies & Safety: Establish and maintain program policies, procedures, and behavioral expectations in alignment with school standards.
  • Evaluation: Regularly collect and analyze feedback from families and staff to guide continuous improvement.

Summer Program Specifics

  • Marketing: Develop marketing plans, execute social media advertising, and update the summer website via the Database Manager.
  • Registration: Manage all aspects of enrollment and database configuration via CampBrain.
  • Logistics: Organize supply purchasing, manage monthly payroll for summer staff, and coordinate with school departments regarding facility needs.

Facility Rentals

  • Management: Oversee campus rental inquiries, contracts, and partnerships to ensure activity is operationally feasible and Mission-appropriate.
  • Coordination: Maintain a master calendar for facility bookings; collaborate with Facilities, Athletics, and Arts departments to prepare and restore spaces.
  • Strategy: Work with the CFO to determine pricing strategies and lead contract negotiations.

Compliance & Preschool Support

  • Licensing: Maintain all licensing records for Little Dragons and K-Prep; ensure compliance with MSDE and Office of Child Care regulations.
  • Certifications: Maintain EXCELS standards and certifications.
  • Preschool Assistance: Support Preschool teachers and operations as needed.

Financial & Administrative Oversight

  • Budgeting: Create and manage annual budgets for all auxiliary areas, ensuring revenue targets are met and resources are allocated effectively.
  • Personnel: Recruit, interview, hire, and train all auxiliary staff. Foster a culture of excellence and equity through ongoing reviews and professional development.
  • Collaboration: Partner with Admissions to use Summer smARTS as a recruitment pipeline; work with Division Heads on student behavior or social-emotional concerns.
  • Reporting: Provide regular reports on enrollment, rental activity, and financial results to the CFO

  • Communication: Strong verbal and written skills for interacting with parents, vendors, and staff; ability to edit marketing materials.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to manage complex logistics and resolve conflicts calmly and professionally.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-task-oriented team in a fast-paced environment.

Education and Experience

  • Education: Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • Certification: MSDE Director qualified (Required).
  • Experience: 3–5 years of experience managing childcare, summer, or auxiliary programs with increasing leadership responsibility.
  • Technical: Proficiency in Google Workspace, Excel, and Word. CampBrain experience is highly preferred.

Other responsibilities may be added as determined by the Head of School or the CFO & Director of Operations.

The ideal candidate is passionate about early childhood education and committed to fostering a joyful, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment. This teacher will support the academic, social, and emotional growth of young learners while cultivating curiosity, independence and a lifelong love of learning. Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher, preferably in Elementary Education
  • Elementary classroom teaching experience
  • Strong understanding of child development and early learning pedagogy
  • Excellent classroom management and organizational skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education

Job expectations include the following:

  • Independently manage a classroom of 15-19 students
  • Create a warm, inclusive, and structured classroom environment that supports all learners
  • Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of the children at all times
  • Plan and teach developmentally appropriate lessons; familiarity with the Science of Reading based learning and Orton Gillingham a plus
  • Implement age-appropriate, educational technology in the classroom to support and enrich academic and social-emotional curriculum
  • Collaborate with the team of Kindergarten teachers to plan and implement grade level activities and projects
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with families regarding student growth and classroom activities
  • Show a willingness to be involved in the total school program, contribute to curricular development, and possible involvement in extracurricular activities
  • Enforce school policies in a supportive, tactful, and professional manner
  • Welcome and seek opportunities for professional growth and self-development
