Athletics
Harford Day School is committed to athletic excellence. The physical education program builds skills, teamwork, and an appreciation for health and fitness. Beginning in fifth grade, students also have an opportunity to play in interscholastic competition.
The philosophy for our teams can be summed up in the motto: “At Harford Day, everyone plays.” There are no “cuts” from our teams. Competing against a variety of Baltimore private schools in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA), and local schools in Harford County on 8 teams in 5 sports—Co-ed Cross Country running, Girls’ Field Hockey, Boys’ and Girls’ Soccer, Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball, and Boys’ and Girls’ Lacrosse. In 2024-25, over 90% of middle school and almost 70% of 5th-grade students participated in at least one athletic team and learned lessons of resiliency, perseverance, camaraderie, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Many Harford Day student athletes go on to compete in top high school programs at schools such as Gilman, St. Paul’s, Calvert Hall, Bryn Mawr, Roland Park Country School, The John Carroll School, and McDonogh.
Our facilities include a full-size natural-grass game field, two practice fields, an air-conditioned field house with a basketball court, locker rooms, and a multipurpose room.
