Summer Programs 2023

Preschool Prep

Preschool Prep

Registration Closes April 30th.

For children ages 3, 4, and entering Kindergarten.
Preschool Prep is designed to support the youngest learners in their journey to and through preschool. We will work on soft skills needed to be successful in preschool such as problem solving, communication, adaptability, critical thinking, time management, and being a part of a larger group. Following directions, lining up, self-regulation, and performing tasks on our own are also part of the learning experience. We will utilize the Slumberkins curriculum to introduce and reinforce these skills throughout the summer. Slumberkins is an emotional learning brand on a mission to empower children to be caring, confident, and resilient. Most weeks, we will have vendors who will provide a special themed experience (in the morning), so children have the opportunity to adapt to different teaching styles and adults, new and different material, and classroom expectations. Preschool prep is ideal for children who will be starting preschool or Kindergarten in the fall, especially those who will be attending Harford Day School. We recommend students entering HDS spend at least one week attending the program before school starts. Please note: all children must be toilet trained to attend Summer smARTS

People cannot engage in problem solving until they regulate their own nervous system first. Mindfulness is the practice of slowing down, noticing, and accepting the body’s sensations, thoughts, and feelings. There’s no need to change anything; just focusing on the present moment is helpful. A growing body of research supports mindfulness as a key skill to help improve focus and attention, reduce anxiety, and increase skills for emotional regulation. Yeti’s lessons outline some key ways to bring these lessons into the classroom. Mindfulness works best as a regular practice, so we encourage you to find ways to infuse mindfulness into a daily or weekly practice in your classroom even after presenting these lessons.

Kidzrock
For students age 4 through entering 5th grade, Extended Programming (4:30-5:30)

Under the guidance of Bel Air Arts Academy instructors, your child will learn how to play drums, guitar, and keyboards as they prepare to play and sing in a real rock concert! The fun rock band format helps kids fall in love with music and feel good about their abilities. If children perceive playing an instrument as fun and easy they are so much more likely to want to continue on into private lessons. Kidzrock also makes a wonderful accompaniment to students who are already in private lessons, as it allows them to experience the joy of making music together with their friends!
