Middle + High School Program Options

We could never forget about our Middle and High School students here at HDS!

10 Weeks: June 13-August 19

Dragon Trainers: (Grades 6-8)

This program combines your child’s favorite summer activities with an introductory service learning component that focuses on teamwork, leadership, and community service within the Early Childhood program (ages 3-5). Choose the weeks with themes that are the most interesting to your child. All Dragon Trainers will be issued a letter detailing their experience hours at the end of each week. *Space is limited to one Dragon Trainer per group, per week*
Summer Program Pricing: $125/week 
Regular Program Day: 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Extended Day Options: Available for Additional Fee

Leader In Training (LIT): (Rising 9th-12th grades)
LIT’s will learn responsibility while participating in service learning activities focusing on character building, responsibility, and leadership. Under the teacher’s supervision, LIT’s will assist with children age 3-entering Kindergarten, or entering 1st-5th grades, help teachers with activity set-up and breakdown, be role models for the younger children, and engage/participate as needed. Lessons learned as a LIT at Summer smARTS at Harford Day are valuable tools for future academic, personal, and professional endeavors. Choose the weeks with themes that are most interesting to you. All LITs will be issued a letter detailing their service learning hours at the end of each week. *Space is limited to two LITs per group, per week*
Hours: 8:15 a.m. -3:15 p.m. (students will have 6.5 hours of volunteer time and a 30-minute break, each day)
Rates: No Charge.
Note: LITs will not be supervised on campus if they are here before or after the hours listed above, unless they have younger siblings enrolled in a summer program the same week.

  • Weeks 5-6: Theater Workshop (Rising 6th-8th grades)

    8:30 am-12:00 pm: $170/week
    Join Mrs. Andrea Sarsfield, Harford Day School’s own Middle School English teacher and Theater Director for a half day of theater fun! Students will participate in a variety of activities, including improvisation games, monologues, skits, and more. This program is great preparation for the HDS yearly performances as well as performances at other local schools!

    8:30 am-3:00 pm: $170/week
    There is no option to do another PM camp these weeks, but you have the option to be a Dragon Trainer until 3:00pm (see above) for the other half the day at no additional cost. EXTENDED DAY IS NOT AN OPTION FOR THIS PROGRAM. 
     
     
  • Week 8 (AM): Model United Nations (rising 6th-8th grades)

    Join Black Rocket Instructors and become one of the 400,000 students around the world in Model United Nations! Assume the role of an ambassador and represent your country to solve current world issues. Throughout the week students will research a world problem, develop solutions, and negotiate consensus with their peers. This program prepares teenagers in core skills such as research, writing, public speaking, problem solving,  and conflict resolution. Model UN alumni have gone on to become supreme court justices, world leaders, lawyers, and business professionals. No prior experience is needed.

    Children may participate in both AM and PM sessions. We will have lunch and recess from 12-1 if you choose this option but you must register and pay for both sessions.

  • Week 8 (PM): Day in Court - Mock Trial (Rising 6th-8th grades)

    $170/week
    Join Black Rocket instructors and play the roles of judge, defendant, plaintiff, witness, lawyer, bailiff or juror in several mock trials. Learn how to make opening and closing statements, how to phrase objections, and how to question witnesses. Pull all your skills together at the end of the week as you participate in a final mock trial based on actual events. 

    Children may participate in both AM and PM sessions. We will have lunch and recess from 12-1 if you choose this option but you must register and pay for both sessions.
Harford Day is the only PK3 to Grade 8 independent school in Harford County accredited by AIMS (Association of Independent Maryland/DC Schools) and a member of NAIS (National Association of Independent Schools).
