Each year, two student-written plays (written during the previous school year) are performed for the entire student body in an Assembly; and for the parents/friends at an evening performance. Participation is through audition for the actors and interviews for all other positions in the production. The Middle School students also act as the stage crew, tech crew and assistant scenery painters (with adult supervision) for these plays.
Each year the entire middle school population is invited to audition for a role in the annual musical. Usually between 55 and 65% of the middle school students participate in some form - actors, dancers, stage crew or tech crew. For the past few years, we have even used a student director to be the assistant to the faculty director. In past years, we have performed such musicals as Aladdin, Fiddler on the Roof, The King and I, Beauty and the Beast, Oklahoma, The Little Mermaid, and Peter Pan.
A Harford Day School education is a gift meant to enrich the mind, body, and spirit of every student; its benefits realized not only while in elementary and middle school, but into high school, college, and life.
