Merit Awards

You have worked hard to provide early learning and enrichment opportunities for your child(ren). To recognize your commitment and your child’s potential to excel in our program, all admissions applications for new students received by the priority deadline of January 10, 2020 will automatically be considered for a limited number of one-year scholarships for highly qualified applicants as demonstrated through the admissions process. Financial need is not a requirement for many of these awards. Learn more HERE.

Customized Payment Plans

In addition to our traditional 1, 3 and 9 payment options, we are now offering customized plans to allow families to spread payments over 12 months.

Military Families

In recognition of your service, newly admitted active-duty military families with children entering Kindergarten or Middle School (Grades 6-8) will receive a $1,000 discount.

In addition, Harford Day School participates in Child Care Aware of America. We will work with you to take advantage of the benefits you are eligible to receive as they relate to our K-Prep 3, K-Prep 4 and Extended Day programs.

Your family may qualify for additional funding. Please review the responsive tuition application process below.

Responsive Tuition

Harford Day School recognizes that funding an education is an investment that not all families can afford without some support. Approximately 30% of our families receive a responsive tuition discount funded through the school’s operating budget and endowment. A responsive tuition discount is not a loan, and does not have to be repaid. Responsive tuition is available to mission-appropriate students whose families’ value an independent education and will support the policies of Harford Day School.

How it Works

A family’s responsive tuition level is determined by completion of an online application that is administered by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). School and Student Services (SSS) by NAIS allows independent (private) schools to use a standardized method to objectively assess what a family can afford to pay for tuition.

Harford Day School strives to meet the demonstrated financial needs of current and prospective families. In addition to the SSS application and tax returns for the previous two years, the School also considers lifestyle choices and spending patterns as part of the award process. In fairness to all applicants, education must be a top priority over luxury cars, vacations, and club memberships.

All responsive tuition inquiries are kept in the strictest of confidence. This information is not shared with faculty or students. We request that families receiving responsive tuition maintain the same discretion.

Harford Day School does not discriminate on the basis of color, creed, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, or disability.

Responsive tuition rates are determined by a family's entire financial profile, not solely income, and are assessed by the HDS Responsive Tuition Committee, and SSS.

2019-2020 Tuition & Fees

Harford Day School's Board of Trustees meets annually in January to set tuition for the following academic year. In making its decision, the Board diligently considers tuition data for peer schools, compiled by both the Association of Independent Maryland & DC Schools (AIMS) and the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS).

Harford Day School is the only elementary and middle school in Harford County accredited by AIMS and holding membership in NAIS. This status places Harford Day among the 120 most elite private schools in Maryland and the District of Columbia and holds HDS to the highest expectations for excellence.
