The Endowment Fund
Harford Day’s well-established financial aid program provides more than $350,000 of assistance to about 20% of the students. As costs rise, the demand for aid will certainly grow. We must be prepared for the future.
Harford Day is in the early stages of an endowment campaign to significantly increase its endowment by the school’s 50th anniversary in 2007. A larger endowment will enhance the school’s long-term viability and flexibility, increase support for faculty compensation and professional development, and provide additional financial assistance for students who otherwise would not be able to afford a Harford Day education.
Faculty Support
Endowed chairs will recognize outstanding faculty members for their dedication and expertise while improving Harford Day’s ability to attract and retain the very best teachers. A nation-wide teacher shortage is making hiring more competitive each year, so Harford Day School must improve its ability to offer an attractive compensation package for its faculty.
Donors may establish a named fund with a gift of $250,000 or more. Every three years, one faculty member will be recognized as the recipient of the chair. The fund can be named for the donor or someone a donor wishes to honor or memorialize.
A named professional development fund may be established with a gift of $25,000 or more.
Financial Assistance
An endowment for student financial assistance will allow Harford Day to ensure that the school’s educational program is available for students who meet the school’s admissions requirements without respect to their ability to afford the tuition. Financial assistance funds will allow the school to enroll a diverse student body encompassing a wide range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds that will reflect the make up of the local community.
Financial assistance endowment funds may be named with a gift of $50,000 or more. Each year, a student will be identified as the recipients of the named funds and although the identity of the student will not be revealed without permission of the recipient’s family, the donor will be apprised of general information about the student.
Unrestricted Support
Unrestricted endowment support is Harford Day School’s greatest need. Endowment funds generate support in perpetuity, and over time the needs of the institution will change. Unrestricted funds will allow the leaders of future generations to fund the priorities that will help Harford Day sustain the excellence of its academic programs.
Although naming opportunities begin at $25,000, gifts of any amount are welcome. Donors may direct their gifts to an existing fund or to the school’s general endowment fund.
