Tuition and Financial Aid
Tuition
Tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year is $14,000 for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Our pre-kindergarten program (K-Prep) tuition is $12,920 for half-days. Students may stay two full days a week for $13,545, three full days for $13,780, and five full days for $14,000. An enrollment deposit of $500 is due by April 1 for all new students.
Financial Aid
Harford Day School provides financial assistance to many families who are not able to pay the full tuition. There is a limited amount of aid available, so not all requests for financial aid can be granted, but the school seeks to meet the demonstrated need. The financial aid committee determines the amount of need based upon a review of the applicant's financial circumstances.
Financial Aid Application Procedure:
- Request a financial aid packet from the Office of Admission or visit NAIS website (www.NAIS.org).The parents' financial statement (PFS) must be completed online. It used by most independent schools to assess qualification for need-based financial assistance.
- Complete your tax returns as soon as possible.
- Complete the PFS and submit it directly to SSS.
- Provide the Office of Admission with a copy of your tax return.
- Beginning in early March, the Financial Aid Committee will review competed forms.
- Financial aid awards are made on a rolling basis, so it is in every applicant's interest to submit the information as soon as possible.
- Applicants are notified of awards via mail.

Helping You Afford Harford Day School 2012-2013
Harford Day School invites families to apply for financial aid (FA). All awards are based on need and priority is given to current HDS students who have received aid in the past. New families are eligible to apply for aid but award requests will not be considered or granted until after the child has been accepted to the school.
The SSS application process must be completed and submitted online at sss.nais.org/parents.
Please provide HDS with a copy of your FA application and a copy of your filed taxes from 2010. As soon as your 2011 taxes are complete, forward us a copy of those as well. (If you are a returning family and have previously applied for FA at HDS you do not need to send the 2010 taxes as they are already in your file.)
Please note that the timeline for financial aid begins in December and all paperwork is due to the Office of Admission by January 31, 2012. This means you must have your taxes completed earlier than the annual April 15th deadline.
If you have any questions throughout the process please contact Ellen Kelly.
Following are the HDS principles which underlie the granting of financial aid:
- Harford Day School is committed to having a student body which is socio-economically diverse. The Financial Aid Program is a means toward achieving that end. We generally do not award full tuition aid.
- Assistance for any student in good standing, current or new, is based upon demonstrated financial need. You must re-apply each year that you request aid.
- Priority is given first to eligible families currently receiving aid who continue to demonstrate need, second to other current families, and third to families new to Harford Day.
- Financial need is the greatest determinant of awards. Reports from SSS provide general direction to the HDS Financial Aid Committee but are not the sole basis for determining awards.
- There are no specific income cut-offs to determine eligibility. In keeping with the school’s philosophical emphasis upon meeting individual needs in all areas, we consider the financial circumstances of each applicant individually.
- All information on your financial aid forms will be held in strictest confidence. It is available only to SSS and the HDS Financial Aid Committee.
- Financial aid is granted with the understanding that if your ability to pay tuition improves after aid has been granted, you will notify HDS and assume your responsibility for a greater part of tuition.
- Harford Day School does not discriminate on the basis of color, creed, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, or disability.
